Durham and Bates Agencies, Inc. Promotes William D. Hurst to President and CEO, Richard L. Seekins to Chairman
PORTLAND, Oregon (January 14, 2011). Durham and Bates Agencies, Inc. has selected William D. Hurst as the Chief Executive Officer and President of the Insurance Brokerage Firm, headquartered in Portland, Oregon since 1907. Hurst, an internationally-known Marine Insurance Broker, and leader of Durham and Bates’ Marine Practice for twenty-five years, assumed the role previously held by Richard L. Seekins on January 1, 2011.

Hurst began his insurance career in 1978 in London, England, returning to Oregon to join Durham and Bates in 1979. He has managed the Marine Practice since 1985 and has served as a Director since 1987. Bill Hurst will become the fifth CEO of Durham and Bates, following the footsteps of his father, James D. Hurst, who led the company from 1963 to 1989. Richard Seekins, who ascended to Chairman effective January 1, 2011, became CEO in 1989 and has been credited with having led the firm to be recognized as a top Oregon company and a fixture among the Northwest business community.
Hurst, on the Board of Directors of Tournament Golf Foundation since 1998, is also an active member of Maritime Commerce Club, and alumni of The University of Oregon. A native Portlander, Hurst lives in NW Portland with his wife, Pam, and has two grown daughters.
